UAEU is one of the oldest universities established in 1976; additionally has been ranked in the top universities of Abu Dhabi with its extensive programs. It is one of the universities which has both undergraduate and graduate programs.

Out of the nine colleges at United Arab Emirates University, most of them have a doctorate and master degrees as well. The nine colleges comprise of:

  1. College of Business and Economics
  2. College of Education
  3. College of Engineering
  4. College of Food and Agriculture
  5. College of Humanities and Social Sciences
  6. College of Information Technology
  7. College of Law
  8. College of Medicine and Health Sciences
  9. College of Science

The Master of Education Program at the United Arab Emirates University is practice oriented with the primary focus of enhancing the knowledge, skills, and dispositions of graduate students. The program is designed to cater for the needs of school teachers, principals, and other school professionals who seek to pursue graduate studies to improve their performance. The program focuses on preparing leaders who engage in school reform through curriculum development, school decision-making, and community outreach. The program is based on the best international standards which will help in facilitating the continuous improvement of education in the United Arab Emirates. The Master’s degree program offers three concentrations: Educational Leadership, Special Education and Curriculum and Instruction.

The Curriculum and Instruction concentration contains five tracks: English, Arabic, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies.

Looking into the program objectives as follows:

  • Acquire advanced knowledge of educational theory, research, and skills related to the area of specialization.
  • Enhance ability to incorporate theory and research into practice related to the area of specialization.
  • Become a reflective practitioner within the area of specialization.
  • Become an educational leader and promotes the success of students by advocating, nurturing, and sustaining a school culture and instructional program conducive to student learning.
  • Enhance ability to use problem solving skills and critical thinking abilities to develop, implement, and evaluate collaborative teaching and learning activities.

Some of the learning outcomes of masters in education:

  • Apply advanced knowledge and skills necessary in their area of specialization.
  • Create a responsive learning environment in which equal treatment, fairness, and respect for diversity are sustained.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to improve programs, services, and outcomes for students and their families.
  • Use quantitative and qualitative research methods that enhance teaching and learning practices and/or school operations.
  • Demonstrate leadership abilities in the profession.
  • Integrate ICT (Information and Communication Technology) into teaching and learning and/or school operations.
  • Use effective communication skills to manage the complexities of teaching for learning in diverse educational settings.

The program is having a total of 36 hours minimum which makes it a good master degree to be pursued with a full-time job. With everything going online and virtual, yes one does miss out on one on one experience with instructors and a classroom, however, you get the benefit going online and getting your courses completed and also have a video to go through later, in case you missed something.
