UAEU is one of the oldest universities established in 1976; additionally has been ranked in the top universities of Abu Dhabi with its extensive programs. It is one of the universities which has both undergraduate and graduate programs.

United Arab University (UAEU) is one of the top universities in the levant region offering both bachelor and masters of science in approximately 20+ streams, including engineering, science (physics, biology and chemistry) and food as well.

Out of the nine colleges at United Arab Emirates University, most of them have a doctorate and master degrees as well. The nine colleges comprise of:

  • College of Business and Economics
  • College of Education
  • College of Engineering (civil and environmental engineering)
  • College of Food and Agriculture
  • College of Humanities and Social Sciences
  • College of Information Technology
  • College of Law
  • College of Medicine and Health Sciences
  • College of Science

Be it designing bridges or to maintain mass transit systems, civil engineers are your go-to people to devise plans to face new challenges and upgrade old systems. At UAEU, Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering comes under a broader scope which is both civil and environmental engineering.

AT UAEU, the program covers different Civil Engineering disciplines including Structural Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Construction Management, Highway and Transportation, Water Resources, Environmental Engineering, and Surveying.

What are the program objectives?

  • Provide students with a clear understanding of advanced civil engineering principles
  • Train students with different problem-solving approaches to work on sophisticated and complex engineering issues
  • Enrich the collaboration in research and graduate studies between the UAE University and the national and industrial sectors in the country and worldwide.
  • Serve the life-long learning needs of the engineering community and develop the graduate students' attitude to acquire further learning experiences and motivate them to get engaged in PhD or advanced training programs
  • Provide a solid foundation for establishing a national research centre for the Civil Engineering discipline in the country.

To discuss how both civil and environmental engineering differ, we will now look into their career options. Additionally, since UAEU offers both under Bachelor of Science in engineering, we will look into those career options.

The profession of civil and environmental engineering is indeed large and diverse. Its work permeates our daily lives as well as our industrial and defence industries. Civil engineering is the design and maintenance of public works such as roads, bridges, water and energy systems, and public facilities like schools, ports, railways, and airports. They also provide the design of industrial facilities such as factories, refineries and multiple housing.

Environmental engineering is applying science and engineering principles to provide healthy water, air, and land for human habitation and other organisms and remediate polluted sites.

Furthermore, Environmental “civil” engineers focus on hydrology, water resources management, bioremediation, and water treatment plant design. Other areas of civil engineering include construction project management, construction automation, environmental engineering, traffic analysis, and mechanics of materials. With the pandemic hitting in 2020, our education system is gone virtual and everything is available online, however, saying that we still were rated 5 stars in international ranking for online learning.
